Haji Maula

Haji Maula
(?-1301)
Originally, Haji Maula was a slave of Fakhr al-Din, the kotwal of Delhi during the reign of Jalal al-Din Firuz Khalji (1290-1296). Haji Maula tried to seize power at the capital while 'Ala al-Din Khalji was besieging Ranthambhor in 1301. He killed the then kotwal and placed on the throne 'Alawi, who was dis-tantly related to Iltutmish. Some of the nobles of the previous regime came forward to support him. This revolt was soon suppressed by of-ficers loyal to 'Ala al-Din. Haji Maula was killed in the fighting while 'Alawi was captured and executed summarily. The nobles of the previous regime executed on this occasion included two sons of Fakhr al-Din.
